How people have been getting this funded

Mount"n Mover customers have obtained funding for their mounting systems through a variety of sources. The list below may give you some ideas as to sources that might work for you.

Insurance

Mount'n Movers have been covered by different forms of medical insurance including private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid and the VA.

Insurance claims have been processed through qualified providers, such as a customer’s rehabilitation center, seating clinic, durable medical equipment suppliers and wheelchair vendors. BlueSky has established reseller agreements with these organizations.

See our Rationale and Justification section and the Comparison table for help in explaining why you need this type of mount when submitting a request for funding.

VA specifics: BlueSky Designs is established as a qualified vendor with a number of VA Hospitals. If BlueSky does not yet have a purchasing arrangement with a particular VA, it typically takes less than a week to get set up. Contact us if you would like to find out if your VA is currently set up or you would like your VA to sign up.

Packaged with New Speech Generating Devices

Some communication device vendors bundle a mounting system with a new AAC device in their funding requests. The following companies have agreed to bundle the Mount'n Mover with their devices when it is specifically recommended or requested by the customer and their team:

Other agreements are being negotiated, and some companies process them on a case by case basis. Contact your company to see if they will work with you to include a Mount'n Mover if you are considering a new device.

3 Steps to Funding Your Mount

  1. Get a quote for your system and submit it to your device vendor, DME dealer, school or other organization.
  2. If medical insurance is involved, it must be processed through a qualified provider. BlueSky Designs is happy to work through your wheelchair, AT or AAC providers or other resellers to place your order.
  3. Once funding is approved, your mount can be ordered and delivered. If you order through a communication device vendor, your mount may come packaged with your device.

  4. Appeals: If you are denied, please contact us and let us know. We will try and help you build the case for getting the mount that is most appropriate for your needs.

The Mount'n Mover does not just mount something in a static position. It is able to be repositioned, often by end users. It is far more independently accessible and repositionable by individuals with physical limitations than any other mount. Arguments to be made for medical necessity might include the following features and functions:

Benefits of repositioning (independent or assisted)

  • to better or more independently access things attached to a wheelchair
  • to move it out of the way to access something else or to get close to a table, counter, toilet, sink, or workstation
  • able to move it out of the way for transfers (independent or assisted)
  • ability to unlock and rotate a device/tray, and/or adjust the tilt angle improves a person’s visual access, making it possible to see more clearly, interact, or more safely or easily achieve other goals (ie, driving a wheelchair, talking, watching the television, use the computer)
  • reposition a device to reduce glare on the communication device or laptop computer screen
  • angle may be adjusted as a person’s positioning changes in the course of a day, making it possible to more easily access communication devices or other controls
  • Able to reposition it in close to torso or above lap to get into tighter spaces, such as elevators or through a doorway

Access from a tilted position

  • Able to safely tilt wheelchair and access communication device from a reclined position in wheelchair, with mounting device in locked position

Maximum accessibility and independent repositioning

  • Low effort levers to unlock and reposition it; requires less than 2 pounds of force
  • Dual arm version minimizes reach required to reposition or retrieve it
  • Competitor’s swing-away takes approx. 5 pounds to unlock, requires much greater range of motion, and swings to a non-functional position
  • Reduces the chance of uncontrolled dropping or impact of device as it is repositioned (as in folding mounts)
  • Far more accessible than other mounts; requires less effort, gross movement and minimal dexterity
  • One-handed use to unlock and reposition; hoop unlocks shoulder and elbow; paddle stays unlocked for rotation
  • Automatically looks for another lock position
  • Device platform rotates, bringing more things within reach (ie, food, drink, communication, phone, controls and call buttons)

Able to customize and provide repeatable positioning for an individual

  • Easy to set one or more memory lock positions for optimal access
  • Option for more than one lock position provides multiple functional positions—no other mount offers this option
  • Repeatable, consistent positioning via memory lock positions for improved access to essential equipment, drinks, food
  • Adjustable friction makes it easier to move, or increases resistance for people with uncontrollable or forceful movement
  • Height adjustable without tools; able to adjust to different heights for different needs (ie, communication, driving)

Grows with a person as they age; or adapts as a person’s needs and condition changes

  • Easy to reconfigure the locking positions (without special tools)
  • Able to set new height positions and adjust the tilt angle
  • Able to use with multiple wheelchairs, and Inexpensive to adapt for use with a new wheelchair

Improved visual access

  • Able to reposition easily, without tools (using tilt or device rotation) to minimize glare and access communication device

Safety of the person and the attached equipment

  • Safe and low effort movement; no lifting required; horizontal movement to reposition
  • Dual arm version can stay in closer to the wheelbase of the chair when moved out of the way, making it less likely to tip
  • Easy to quickly move out of the way in case of emergency (aspiration, seizure), without removing the device
  • Able to move it out of the way, but leave device on chair for transfers (safer for attached equipment)

Safer for driving/wheeling with ability to reposition

  • Able to change the tilt angle or otherwise reposition it for clear visual access while driving a wheelchair
  • Able to move it closer in to a person’s torso, when driving wheelchair to minimize width and to pass through doors
  • Breakaway feature protects the device if a person leaves it outside their wheelchair and runs into a wall
