Telescoping Square

Approach 1a: Motion Concepts seat frame: there are two thru holes behind the two black plugs.
Attach to the 2 holes with an Adapter Plate
Adapter Plate (AP) to L-Angle Extension offsets (2) to Solid Wheelchair Bracket. L-AEs offset to position it around the joystick.
Approach 1b: The telescoping round tube with holes located on the front of the seat frame, below the knees can sometimes be used for attachment. It is not ideal, as the holes don't always line up well.
An Adapter Plate 2 is attached using the thru holes in the round tube. An L-Angle Extension is used to offset the Wheelchair Bracket.
Approach 2: The Motion Concepts adapter kit allows attachment of an Adapter Plate to the seat frame. It is an involved assembly process.
The Adapter Kit slides on over the square section that telescopes into the frame. The section with two bolts is oriented outwards to attach an Adapter Plate.
Approach 2: Example of a Motion Concepts frame which requires the Adapter Kit.

Offset options

Offsets attach to the wheelchair attachment hardware, and are used to:

  • Get around obstacles such as trays, brakes, footrests and armrests
  • Position the Wheelchair Bracket so the post is in the optimal position (post can be inserted and removed, brakes are unobstructed, footrests removed, accommodate the tray, etc)
  • Adjust the angle of the hardware and/or bracket to make sure the post is vertical

These plates can all be used to offset. To figure out which offset plate will work for you, see our Offset Guide.

How to mount:

The old-style Motion Concepts seat frame does not have a slide track. You may need to use a special component as shown in Approach 2.

Depending on the frame, you can sometimes attach directly to it in one of two ways:

Approach 1a: Attach to the two thru holes, spaced about .75" apart, using an Adapter Plate, 2 bolts and 2 lock nuts. Attach a Wheelchair Bracket to that directly, or use an Offset Option to position the Wheelchair Bracket where you would like it.

Approach 1b: If the two holes are not available and the round tube with holes that spans the width of the chair behind the knees is accesible, you can use an Adapter Plate 2 or 4. Then, use an L-Angle Extension plate or attach a Wheelchair Bracket directly.

In either case, if a person typically sits at an angle, use the Angle Adjustment Plate to set the post to nearly vertical in their typical driving position.

How to mount:

The attachment options and instructions vary, depending on the frame and how far in/out the telescoping tube extends.

It involves removal of the forward telescoping seat frame component, insertion of nuts in an interior channel, and potentially the use of the Adapter component.

Manufacturer parts:

The Motion Concepts Seating Adapter Kit is for older style MC frames without a track, and where the two threaded holes on the side and the holes in the round tube are not available.

It involves removal of the forward telescoping seat frame component.
